March 4, 2022 Update
I have multiple stages of projects going on right now which has been a lot of fun and kept me very busy. There are four books that I'd like to cover today.
Heart of Ice Pulled Me Out of a Hard Time
The book that I'm querying out, Heart of Ice, is an important book to me. It's long for a debut novel, which is why I'm thinking it isn't striking much interest. It's a book that still means a lot to me though and so I'll keep sending it out while working on my other books which fit more into the word count of debut novels. Rejections are hard but it's a part of the process. I'm very happy I've had the experience of sending out my material and am grateful for the literary agents who have provided guidance on their websites and have been kind enough to review my queries. It has been an interesting and fun experience.
The reason this book means so much to me is because it's the first book I decided to stop being embarrassed about what people would think and just wrote the scenes, characters, and world that's in my head. It was cathartic in a way. I noticed that I had never put so much passion in a project. I started the book only a few months after my first son was born. Until I started writing that book, and really committing myself to writing it, my usual anxiety was out of control. Giving birth does things to your body. I hadn't expected just how bad my anxiety would be. Writing Heart of Ice pulled me out of a hopeless time. It also made it so I got like no sleep in between writing and waking up constantly with a baby. I look back at the experience with fondness.
Overall, despite the hundreds of hours spent writing and editing the book, I wouldn't wish for that time back, even if the book never gets published. Leoc, Donavan, Flor, and a host of other characters will be a part of my world forever and will inspire me to make my writing better. That's the beauty of writing. There is always a way to better your craft.
An Escape Artist, a Lawyer, and a Duchess
Back in October I finished writing a book called Escaping the Isle of the Forsaken Gods. It's a long title that I've been workshopping for a while. I've now let the manuscript sit for a few months, have read through it and am now editing it. The book is about a trio of good female friends who are the best of the best in their respective guilds. They are kidnapped by three second son dragons who are wanting to use their skills to take the kingdoms of the fathers who abandoned them. Aislin, non-kidnappers call her Ace, must find a way to help her friends escape. The problem, other than being constantly watched by three dragons, is that they're on a mysterious island located in the Far North. She has made some daring escapes but this one will be the most daring yet.
This was a super fun book to write because I got to go into greater detail about the the three liberation guilds in my world. If you want to learn more about them, visit the World section on this website.
Dragon Pirates and a Human Architect
A week ago I finished my newest book that I'm way excited for. I'll talk about it more in my next blog post but it focuses on a pirate, who's also a dragon, and him working with the phantoms guild to make a lot of money but mostly to spite his father. I won't start editing this book for about three months, after it's had time to sit.
I'm currently writing a book that takes place pretty far back in the history of Guardious and Maldia. At this point of time Maldian dragons have just started to accept human sentience. It was just in time too, because the rock dragon horde is being hunted and they'll need to depend on the talents of an awkward, human architect to save them from extinction.
Thank you for reading my blog. I'm super excited about a lot of my projects and am already debating what I should work on next. How has writing or reading helped you through hard times? If you were a water dragon forced into a human profession, what would your job be?
Keep being creative!
