I was really happy today because I got a rejection email from a literary agent but this one had some personal comments on it. I know literary agents are super busy and have to read through so much material and so I was very grateful for the comments. They said they liked the story idea for Heart of Ice but that the first three chapters had too much exposition. I'm grateful for their feedback and have decided to rewrite the beginning of the book.

It's fun because I know what it is I need to change but also terrifying because, you know, it's a pretty big revision. For that reason, I'm incredibly happy they mentioned a big hang-up was the exposition. I'm going to nix a whole bunch of it and I think start the story at chapter two rather than chapter one. Until then, I'm putting a hold on querying out because I want to show agents my best work and I always had suspicions the beginning was a bit slow.

I've been working in earnest on editing the Isle of the Forsaken Gods book. I'll continue editing my first draft but will put a temporary pause or at least not be editing with as much attention until I've finished reworking the first three chapters of Heart of Ice.

In other news, I think I found a book series that's very comparable to my own books. I went to a cute little bookstore in Boise's downtown and found a few books with dragons on the cover. I of course had to see what they were about and was super excited to see they mentioned sentient dragons who were in close communication with humans. The author is Robin Hobb. I bought the first book in the series and am very excited to read it once I finish a couple of books I got from the library over the next couple of days.

Do you have any book recommendations about sentient dragons? What are ways you all go about revising your work?

Thank you for reading my blog and keep dreaming and daydreaming about all your beautiful worlds.
